F.P.S. was formed in 1937 by a group of eight anglers who were fishing Blenheim Pits which is now known as Blenheim Park. Within a couple of months the membership increased to thirty anglers.
Matches in those early days were fished from 8am - 8pm with time taken off to go home for Sunday lunches. F.P.S. entered teams into Middlesex and Surrey leagues and won these on a regular basis.
Over the years the club negotiated leases to fish a number of local waters many of which were later lost to building development or given up due to difficulties in managing them.
Prudent management of the society's finances eventually allowed us to purchase the fishing rights on a stretch of the River Kennet. This was followed by the acquisition of a lake in Sunbury, which is now our most popular venue and which has been developed into two lakes (Sivyers and Erics) on the site. In 2009 the club managed to purchase the fishing rights to half of the section of River Thames back water known as the 'Creek'. The main lake is named after the society's Chairman, Albert Sivyer, who retired from the position in 2007 having served on the club committee for fifty eight years, thirty eight as Chairman, and who passed away in 2009.
At the AGM, in 2011 the committee put forward the proposition that 'Twickenham Piscatorial Society' merge with 'Feltham Piscatorial Society' to form a club called 'Feltham & Twickenham Piscatorial Society'. The reason for this was that Twickenham were a dying club but had healthy assets. They were going to bring with them their freehold fishery of a 3 acre lake on 17 acres of land and a sum in excess of £50,000. All Feltham's committee, constitution and rules were to remain in place. This was carried with a vote of 73 for and 3 against the motion.
Feltham & Twickenham Piscatorial Society is now thriving with a current membership of over 900. Adult male membership is currently restricted to 750 and there is a waiting list for new members wishing to join the society.
